ANGUSVILLE, Man.: Officials say a massive blaze that tore through a flaxseed plant in western Manitoba was accidental.
The Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner says the blaze started in the Flanbia Nutritionals plant’s pasteurizer unit when flax meal overheated.
A firm cost figure for damage from the fire has not yet been set, but officials say it’s estimated to be more than $7 million.
The plant also employs about 50 workers, many of who are now uncertain about their futures.
Three people were inside the plant when the fire started around 6 a.m. on March 13. They noticed smoke in the warehouse area and called 911 before managing to get out.
No one was injured.
