BERLIN — Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation has won a US$771 million order from the Stockholm Public Transport Authority (SL) to deliver the next generation C30 metro fleet for Stockholm, Sweden.

The Berlin-based train operations of Bombardier Inc. in Montreal said the contract involves 96 MOVIA metro vehicles and an option for up to 80 additional vehicles.

The high-tech MOVIA C30s have been customized to meet SL’s requirements for high availability, accessibility, reliability and passenger comfort.

The new fleet will run on the Red Line connecting Stockholm’s north-eastern and south-western suburbs directly with the city centre. The four-car vehicles, fitted with a driver’s cab at each end, are also equipped with an advanced driverless function.

Delivery is to start in November 2016.
