Check out this video from WIRED of the first test run of the Hyperloop One. It uses a linear electric motor to accelerate and decelerate an electromagnetically levitated pod through a low-pressure tube.

This future mode of transportation (envisioned by Elon Musk in a White Paper) could move cargo and people from Los Angeles to San Francisco in 50 minutes. The vehicle is supposed to glide silently at up to 620 mph (1,000 km/h) with no turbulence.

Hyperloop One is developing passenger and cargo system routes in the US, Finland, the UAE, Russia and Switzerland. It’s goal is to deliver a fully operational Hyperloop system by 2020.
