ST. JOHN’S, NL — Newfoundland and Labrador’s natural resources minister says the province has been assured the owner of the Come by Chance oil refinery is trying to sell the facility.

However, Derrick Dalley says while the option to sell is on the table, so too is downsizing or a closure.

Parent company Korean National Oil Corporation announced in September that it is divesting itself of Canadian assets including the refinery.

Dalley says he has met with officials from Harvest Energy who have indicated they have received a number of proposals for the refinery from different companies.

He says the government is optimistic the company will be successful in finding a buyer.
Dalley says the province is ready to do what it can to support the process, but says there have been no requests for help from the company.
