KINGSEY FALLS, Que.: Cascades Inc. says it no longer plans to close its containerboard mill in Trenton, Ont. – saving 130 jobs.
The Quebec-based paper and packaging company had said in April that the Norampac Trenton mill would close by June 1 due to unresolved negotiations with its unionized workers.
Cascades says mill employees have now ratified a contract that allows the plant to remain open.
The company’s chief executive, Andre Depin, says the mill will still face challenges but Cascades can now work on a plan for its long-term survival.
The plant makes material used in corrugated packaging.
