SHAWINIGAN, Que. — A Quebec company that makes charging stations for electric vehicles is getting $7 million in funding from the federal government.

AddEnergie, its plant based in Shawinigan, said it will apply the investment to the installation of more than 1,000 charging stations across Canada by 2019, and to develop the next generation of fast-charging stations.

Almost a quarter of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions come from the transportation sector.

The Trudeau government’s 2016 provides $62.5 million for infrastructure related to alternative transportation fuels, including charging stations for electric vehicles, plus natural gas and hydrogen refuelling stations.
