MONTREAL — Orbite Technologies Inc. is getting $15 million from the Quebec government through Investissement Québec to speed up completion of its high purity alumina (HPA) plant at Cap-Chat.

“Commissioning activities, which have been ongoing these past weeks, continue to meet expectations, and we will be providing updates on plant start-up timing as we close the various tranches of the financing,” stated Glenn Kelly, CEO of Orbite.

Orbite Technologies Inc., a cleantech company based in Montreal, has developed proprietary processes for the production of alumina and other high-value products, such as rare earth and rare metal oxides, which it says it does at “one of the lowest costs in the industry.”

It says the sustainable process uses feedstocks that include aluminous clay, kaolin, nepheline, bauxite, red mud, fly ash as well as serpentine residues from chrysotile processing sites.

Orbite’s 28,000 square-foot, $131 million facility is expected to start commercial production in the second quarter of the year.
