CALGARY — Pinkwood plans to open a new, high-capacity I-joist manufacturing plant in Calgary, with production to begin in March.

The plant will produce I-joists protected with Pinkshield, the company’s proprietary pink coating developed a pilot facility in Calgary. The coating resists mould, moisture and fire.

Pinkwood’s new $4.5 million plant is 56,400 square-feet on a 6.77-acre site, and will be capable of producing 60 million linear feet annually for projected sales of $70 million. It will employ 20 people.

The Calgary manufacturer of I-joists and other wood products says it will be the first such manufacturer in the world to commercially produce protected joists as part of the standard quality specification.

The entire production will be primarily sold in Western Canada.
