New Flyer to invest $28M in bus parts plant in Kentucky

The 300,000 square-foot facility will serve three business units of the NFI Group in the US.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — New Flyer of America Inc., a US subsidiary of New Flyer Industries Inc. in Winnipeg, is investing US$28 million in capital equipment and preparation for a new parts fabrication plant in Shepherdsville, Ky.

The 300,000 square-foot facility will fabricate parts for New Flyer transit buses, MCI motor coaches and NFI Parts – all business units of the NFI Group.

Production is to begin during the second quarter of 2018 and to be fully operational by December 2019. The plant will employ up to 550 people.

The new Bullitt County facility is getting support through tax incentives from the Kentucky Business Investment program. New Flyer will also receive resources from the Kentucky Skills Network.

NFI Group currently employs 176 people at Parts Distribution Centers in Louisville and Hebron in Kentucky.
