BC aerospace gets $5M boost in provincial budget

Investment meant to attract global aerospace and defence contractors to the province.

VICTORIA – BC finance minister Michael de Jong has confirmed the provincial government will invest $5 million over five years in partnership with the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC) to grow its aerospace sector and to help attract global aerospace and defence contractors to the province.

“We will also leverage the federal Industrial Regional Benefits Program to attract global aerospace and defence contractors to BC,” added de Jong, in a speech at the BC legislature.

AIAC Pacific represents 30 BC companies in the aerospace manufacturing and services sector, which generate $1.2 billion in revenues annually and employ more than 10,000 people.

“The commitment to the aerospace sector will be a strong statement to global aerospace companies that BC is a good location for investment,” said David Schellenberg, chair of AIAC Pacific. “This investment will allow us to leverage federal programs and initiatives in support of the industry here in BC, helping companies to develop new technologies, expand their global reach, and become more competitive.”
