Worker killed in crash at CNRL’s Horizon oil sands site

Pickup truck collided with large transport vehicle, sparking a fire.

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — A worker has died at an oil sands site in northeastern Alberta.

RCMP say a pickup truck collided with a large transport vehicle at the Horizon site owned by Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. near Fort McMurray.

The crash sparked a fire and a man, believed to have been inside the pickup, was killed.

A company spokeswoman says operations have been suspended in the site’s mining area.

Officials with the province’s Occupational Health and Safety unit are investigating.

The name of the worker has not been released.
