US Cascades mills back to work following fire

Quebec paper company resumes shipping, 225 workers return to work.

KINGSEY FALLS, Que. — Cascades says 255 employees have returned to work at two containerboard mills that were temporarily closed by a weekend fire in Niagara Falls, NY.

The Quebec-based company said both mills have resumed shipping finished products manufactured before the fire and that the Greenpac mill, which suffered no damage in the fire, was expected resume normal production within 48 hours.

Cascades, which produces and markets packaging and tissue products comprised mainly of recycled fibres, says the startup of the Norampac mill won’t be determined until damage to stock preparation equipment is assessed.

The fire mainly affected feeder stock comprised of old corrugated boxes and damaged a stand-alone warehouse at the site.
