LAVAL, Que. — Uniboard Canada Inc. is investing $53 million at it’s Val-d’Or particleboard and thermally fused laminate facility to increase the productivity and modernize key production areas.
The company expects the investment to strengthen its overall network of particleboard, MDF and thermofused laminate facilities located in Sayabec and Mont-Laurier, Que.
The Val d’Or facility employs 186 workers.
In 2010, the company invested into a new thermally fused laminate short-cycle press in Val-d’Or to complement its value-added products.
Uniboard Canada Inc. is a manufacturer of engineered wood products, with an installed capacity of over 640 million square feet of raw particleboard, high-density and medium-density fiberboard, of which over 50% is converted into thermally fused laminate and laminate flooring products.
Its mills in Val-d’Or, Sayabec, Mont-Laurier and Laval employ over 800 people.
In 2012, the company was acquired by Kaycan, a North American manufacturer of building products including including vinyl, aluminum and engineered wood siding products, PVC windows and patio doors, particleboard, MDF, thermally fused melamine and laminate flooring.
