DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — An American helicopter mechanic whose Facebook post complaining about his employer in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) got him arrested says he has been informed the company is seeking to dismiss the charges against him.

Belleair Bluffs, Florida native Ryan Pate appeared in an Abu Dhabi court March 17 to present his defence on charges he defamed the Emirati company he worked for, Global Aerospace Logistics.

After the hearing, the 30-year-old says his lawyer told him the company has submitted paperwork seeking to dismiss the charges. Pate is still waiting for final confirmation from the court.

He is out of jail pending a verdict but his passport is being held by authorities, meaning he cannot leave the Gulf nation.

GAL did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
