Small spill near former GM plant in St. Catharines investigated
Firefighters found a very small leak or spill into the creek.
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — The provincial environment ministry is investigating a spill near a former General Motors plant in St. Catharines, Ont.
A resident called officials Feb. 18 after seeing what looked like an oil substance coming from a pipe running into Twelve Mile Creek.
St. Catharines fire chief Dave Wood says firefighters found a very small leak or spill into the creek.
Wood says investigators are still on the scene trying to find out where it is coming from.
The property near the spill is now owned by Bayshore Groups, a real estate developer.
Wood says booms and absorbents have been set up in the sewer system and the creek to contain the spill.
