LAVAL, Que. — ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. is acquiring Emergent BioSolutions’ plasma collection centre in Winnipeg.

The collection centre, licensed by FDA and Health Canada, is located near the Emergent cGMP manufacturing facility, which is providing ProMetic with up to 250,000 litres of plasma processing capacity.

The centre’s personnel will be employed by ProMetic, a biopharmaceutical company based in Laval, Que.

“This acquisition allows us to begin the integration of key operational components, such as plasma collection capabilities, to our proprietary plasma-derived manufacturing platform,” said Pierre Laurin, president and CEO of ProMetic.

He said the centre will complement ProMetic’s expanding network of US based plasma suppliers.

The facility will also be used as a blueprint for the opening of additional plasma collection centres, as part of the company’s plan to integrate the supply chain.

Emergent is a provider of contract manufacturing services for both bulk drug substances and sterile injectable drug products based in Baltimore, Md.
