MAGNA INTERNATIONAL INC. - Magna supplies AWD system on Mercedes

The ProActive(TM) Rear Drive Module improves drag, torque, system efficiency and weight.

AURORA, Ont. — Magna International Inc.’s powertrain unit will supply its ProActiveTM rear drive module all-wheel-drive (AWD) system for the new Mercedes-Benz GLA compact SUV, the A45 AMG and the CLA.

The system is designed as a platform for C-segment vehicles and integrates as an AWD coupling and rear axle drive. Magna says the system improves vehicle drag, torque, system efficiency and weight performance.

It says the high level of integration was achieved through the use of one common oil circuit to improve the coupling function in extreme conditions and downsize the packaging. The elimination of seal rings and bearings reduces drag by approximately 14% to lower CO2 emissions and decreases mass by more than 2kg.
