Linamar, GF Automotive form castings, machining joint-venture

Agreements includes a new jointly owned light metal foundry in the southeastern US.

GUELPH, Ont. — Linamar Corp. has entered into a joint-venture agreement with GF Automotive to provide integrated casting and machining solutions to automotive, industrial, and commercial customers.

Linamar, based in Guelph, Ont., manufactures precision forged and machined metallic components, modules, and systems for engine, transmission, and driveline systems.

GF Automotive is a manufacturer of light-weight cast components and systems for automotive and industrial applications.

The companies have agreed to build a new jointly owned light metal foundry in the southeastern US. The new jointly-owned entity named GF Linamar LLC will provide light metal high-pressure die castings for powertrain, driveline and structural components to the NAFTA market.


The foundry is scheduled to begin production mid-2017. Linamar will also provide machining services on site.

Both transactions are subject to normal course regulatory approvals.

Linamar has more than 19,500 employees at 48 manufacturing locations, 5 R&D centres and 15 sales offices in 14 countries.

Georg Fischer, headquartered in Switzerland, is made up of three divisions including GF Piping Systems, GF Automotive, and GF Machining Solutions. Founded in 1802, it has operations 31 countries with 126 companies, 47 of them production facilities that employ more than 14,000 employees.
