Joe Oliver joins Montreal Economic Institute

Will lend expertise to projects related to public finances and natural resources.

MONTREAL — Former federal finance minister Joe Oliver has joined The Montreal Economic Institute (MEI) as a “Distinguished Senior Fellow,” where he will take part in research projects, particularly those related to public finances and natural resources.

Oliver is originally from Montreal and was elected in 2011 as Conservative Member of Parliament for the riding of Eglinton-Lawrence, in Toronto, Ont. He successively served as Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources and its Minister of Finance.

A long-time investment banker, Oliver has served as executive director of the Ontario Securities Commission and CEO of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada.

The Montreal Economic Institute is an independent research and educational organization based in Montreal.
