Oil and gas foreign investment already tops $19.6B in 2014

Research reveals 98% of Canadian energy production is exported to the US.

OTTAWA — The Canadian Press has compiled some facts and figures about Canada’s oil and gas sector based on research from Natural Resources Canada and the US Energy Information Administration:

Foreign direct investment through eight months 2014: $19.6 Billion

Record annual foreign direct investment: $25.6 Billion, 2007

Canadian crude oil production 2006: 2.65 million barrels per day

Canadian crude oil production 2013: 3.46 million barrels per day

Percentage of Canadian oil production from Alberta: 78%, 2013

Percentage of Canadian energy production going to U.S.: 98%

Canada sits third in the world, behind Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, in proved oil reserves.

Canada sits fifth in the world in production of natural gas.
