For cargo lift bases used to transport radioactive material at French nuclear facilities

TORONTO — Cymat Technologies Ltd. received a $300,000 order for 710 square metres of its SmartMetal for use in the nuclear material facilities of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA).

The materials technology company based in Mississauga, Ont. makes stabilized aluminum foam (SAF). It’s SmartMetal panels have cellular structure that absorbs energy.

Cymat says the Smartmetal has been engineered for installation in the base of cargo lifts used in the transport of radioactive material as an energy absorber that will provide protection in the event of a major lift failure.

The CEA is a government agency responsible for French nuclear policy.

France presently gets about 75% of its electricity from nuclear energy.
