Canadian companies to brew beer from cannabis

Province Brands of Canada and Murphy Hospitality Group announce a co-packing agreement.

CAMBRIDGE BAY, NU — Province Brands of Canada will produce a private label cannabis-brew beer through Canna Island Inc., a subsidiary of Murphy Hospitality Group (MHG) in PEI.

Province Brands, a beverage producer based in Cambridge Bay, a hamlet on Victoria Island in the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut, is teaming up with MHG, a Charlottetown brewer and owner of restaurants, hotels and brew pubs operating in the Martimes, to co-package a non-alcoholic cannabis-brewed beer and beer infused with cannabis oil.

The beer will use a unique recipe from MHG. Production will come from Province Brands’ 123,000 square-foot facility in Grimsby, Ont., which is currently under construction.

The companies note the beers brewed from the cannabis plant will intoxicate using THC and other phytocannabinoids instead of alcohol. Since there is no barley in beers brewed from the cannabis plant, the beer will be gluten-free and low in calories and sugar.
