Bombardier wins $203M rail order for 62 Flexity

Light rail vehicles will replace the region's existing fleet of Stadtbahnwagen Bs.

BERLIN, GERMANY — Bombardier Transportation has signed contracts worth US$203 million with both the Düsseldorf (Rheinbahn AG) and Cologne transport authorities (KVB) for 62 Flexity light-rail vehicles.

KVB is ordering 20 vehicles at $68 million. Rheinbahn AG’s contract for 42 vehicles, with an option for an additional 16, is valued at $135 million.

The light rail vehicles will replace the region’s existing fleet of Stadtbahnwagen Bs and be manufactured at Bombardier plants in Germany.

Düsseldorf’s vehicles are to be delivered between 2017 and 2020. Cologne’s are scheduled for 2020 to 2021.
