Ballard licenses fuel cell system to Chinese assembler
Telecom backup in China seen as a key growth driver for the fuel cell developer.
RUGAO, CHINA — Ballard Power Systems has signed a $6 million licensing agreement that will see Azure Hydrogen assemble telecom backup power systems for the China market.
The agreement with the Beijing-based clean tech company will run through the 2014-15 period.
“The telecom backup power market is a key growth driver for our business and is also a significant opportunity in China given the scale of the market and China’s growing focus on clean energy technology,” said John Sheridan, president and CEO of the Burnaby, BC hydrogen fuel cell company.
Ballard will be the exclusive supplier of subsystems – including FCgenTM-1020ACS air-cooled fuel cell stacks and fuel processors – and will receive a royalty payment for each system sold in China.
