China is well known as a paradise for consumers of cheap, often pirated goods.
Software, DVDs, clothing, footwear.
It’s pretty to easy to get your hands on whatever you’d like, and not have to empty out your wallet to do so.
But, the Chinese government has pledged to take a closer look at online counterfeits, mainly because consumers have actually started speaking up, dissatisfied with the quality of their purchases.
According to Bloomberg, China’s State Council, announced a round of crackdowns against “Internet-based crimes” in April, including online piracy and fake goods. The crackdowns are said to cover trademark violations, deceptive advertising and shoddy agricultural products and pharmaceuticals. The government said companies caught violating rules will be “banned.” Whatever that actually means, no one knows yet.
