TORONTO: Cymat Technologies Ltd.’s Alusion aluminium foam product will clad the exterior façade of the newly constructed Congress Center in Mallorca Spain.
The Toronto-based materials technology company says this project represents the single largest public project under construction in Spain and is prominently located in one of the major tourist destinations in Europe.
The $2.2 million contract involves more than 200,000 square feet of the Alusion material in a 405,000 square-foot build area that will house exhibition halls, auditoriums, restaurants, and a hotel. Cymat will deliver the cladding over a seven-month period beginning in March.
“This project represents our largest exterior cladding application to date and serves as further affirmation of the appeal of Alusion as a cladding material,” said Dave Fowler, Cymat’s president and COO.
Cymat has worldwide rights for the production of Stabilized Aluminum Foam (SAB), manufactured by bubbling gas through molten-alloyed aluminum containing a dispersion of fine ceramic particles.
The recyclable material, produced as either near-net shapes or flat panels, has a very low density, it absorbs mechanical energy, can be used as thermal and acoustic insulation, it’s time and temperature insensitive and is relatively low cost to produce.
