Steelworkers reach a labour deal with Scapa Tapes in Renfrew
New contract includes 2% annual wage increases, higher shift premiums, introduction of a millwright apprenticeship program.
RENFREW, Ont. — United Steelworkers (USW) members employed at Scapa Tapes North America in Renfrew have ratified a new collective agreement with the company.
The 137 members of Local 6946 work in production and maintenance positions at the plant, which produces adhesive tapes for medical, athletic, consumer and industrial applications.
The three-year agreement runs until Nov. 5, 2020 and includes 2% annual wage increases, higher shift premiums, the introduction of an apprenticeship program for millwrights.
Improvements to benefits cover dental and vision care, life insurance, bereavement leave, safety boot allowances and seniority rights. There is also new language to support employees affected by domestic violence, a new employee assistance program and an anti-harassment training program developed by the USW
