Bombardier scores $1.7B Q400 deal in Paris, $1.1B Aventra win in UK

Rail contract is the transportation company’s largest single contract globally for Aventra trains.

TORONTO — Bombardier Commercial Aircraft signed a letter of intent at the International Paris Air Show with SpiceJet of Gurgaon, India for up to 50 Q400 turboprop airliners in a $1.7 billion deal.

The agreement includes 25 aircraft with rights on an additional 25.

Since 2010, SpiceJet has taken delivery of 15 Q400 aircraft. The airline currently operates 20 of Bombardier’s aircraft with the 78-seat configuration.

The Montreal-based global transportation company has also won a major rail and maintenance contract in the UK worth US$1.1 billion.

The deal with FirstGroup and MTR involves the supply and maintenance of 750 Bombardier Aventra vehicles for the South Western rail franchise.

Bombardier says this is the largest single contract globally for Aventra trains.

The new trains will start to come into service from mid-2019 and will all be in place by December 2020.
