COLUMBIA, S.C.—BMW is adding 300 jobs to its South Carolina plant as it readies to start production of its new X4 SUV.

The jobs are part of a $900 million investment plan for the Greer plant, which has produced two million vehicles since opening in 1994.

With the investment, the German automaker says it will produce up to 300,000 cars and employ 7,500 people at the plant, which shifted to a six-day work week to increase production in August.
