QUEBEC CITY: Enigma Interconnect, a Canadian electronics manufacturing services company, will be manufacturing intelligent motion detection modules for Lyrtech Inc., a developer of digital signal processing (DSP) technologies based in Quebec City.

The $28-million OEM contract will involve Enigma designing, developing and mass producing intelligent motion detection modules based on existing Lyrtech intelligent optical sensing (IOS) technology.

Enigma said the agreement ensures a steady flow of work at its fabrication, assembly and testing installations in Pointe-Claire and St-Laurent, Que., and its plant in Vancouver.
The device, projected to last two years, will be assembled and tested in the Montreal area and use printed circuit boards supplied by theVancouver plant.

IOS is a DSP-based technology that detects presence even without motion and is set to replace older sensing technologies such as passive infrared and ultrasonic occupancy sensing in plants and other commercial-sized facilities.

Lyrtech said IOS will be pivotal in HVAC and lighting systems, enabling them to automatically adjust heat, airflow or light use, thus saving energy.
