VANCOUVER: CanWel Building Materials Group Ltd. is adding pressurized lumber to its repertoire with the purchase of treatment plants from NorthWest Wood Preservers in Prince George, BC.

A letter of intent covers the purchase for an undisclosed amount through CanWel’s subsidiary CanWel Building Materials Ltd. in Vancouver. The deal includes four operating treating plants and several distribution centres located across Canada.

“The acquisition will provide us with an integrated capability in treated lumber that is expected to enhance our profitability and growth strategies, as CanWel is currently a customer of the plant,” said Amar Doman, chairman and CEO of CanWel.

CanWel, one of Canada’s largest wholesale building-material distributors, offering lumber, hardware and renovation products, said the acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year.
