TORONTO: CCL Industries Inc. has acquired the pharmaceutical division assets of Graphitype Printing Services, a privately owned printing company based near Sydney, Australia, for $7.3 million.

CCL Industries, a Toronto-based specialty-packaging manufacturer, said the business, which will operate under CCL Label, produces labels and patient instructional leaflets for pharmaceutical customers in Australia and will complement the existing CCL Label Healthcare operation in Melbourne.

Graphitype’s pharmaceutical division sales were $7.6 million for the 12-month period ending on June 30.

Geoffrey Martin, president and CEO of CCL Industries, said the acquisition will strengthen the company’s position in Australia “with sites now located in both of the key pharmaceutical manufacturing centres in the country.”

CCL Industries employs 6,400 people and operates 72 production facilities globally.
