TORONTO — Mattress manufacturer Tempur Sealy Canada has repurposed part of its manufacturing to contribute to the supply of critically-needed protective face shields.

In a joint effort with printing firm Mack Media Inc., Tempur says it will assemble and ship the devices for urgent use by Ontario doctors, nurses and health care workers on the front lines of the province’s COVID-19 pandemic response.

“When we got the call from our associate at Mack Media, we didn’t hesitate,” said Monty Bagga, Tempur Sealy Canada chief operating officer, in a prepared statement. “If we can contribute and make even a small impact for the health care community, we felt an obligation to do so.”

Mack Media Inc. developed and created a prototype for personal protective equipment. The firm says all of its operations are working to build and assemble the face shields, but it needs additional manpower. In an effort to supply the quantity needed quickly, President Frank Mackovski approached Tempur Sealy.

“The worldwide objective to slow this virus and stop this pandemic in its tracks will depend on the collective efforts of many,” said Mackovski in a statement. “We have to be creative, strategic and collaborative to flatten the curve.”
